Iain Abernethy – The applications of Chinto / Gankaku

In Shotokan the kata goes by the name Gankaku (“crane on a rock”) due to the distinctive one-legged postures in the second half of the kata. Some of the methods in the kata were integrated into the Pinan / Heian series by Anko Itosu. The kata contains escapes, gripping, strikes, locks, throws, postu
